Maria Giulia Molinaro Vitale is an Italian photojournalist, activist and doctoral researcher. She is currently based in Ireland, as she is enrolled in a PhD in Sociology of War and Violence at University College of Dublin.
Her research focuses on police militarisation in protests. Maria Giulia has a Bachelor Degree in Theoretical Philosophy with a thesis on the Western representations of the Middle East (with a focus on the works of Edward Said), and a Master Degree in Aesthetics and Political Philosophy at University of Rome “La Sapienza” with a dissertation titled Images and Filmic Narratives of War after 9/11. Aesthetic Practices and Their Political Effects.
Regarding her journalistic work, she contributes in the News & Current Affair section of the The Univeristy Observer.
As photographer, Maria Giulia covered rallies and riots in Paris (France), Dublin (Ireland), Washington DC (USA), London (UK), Rome (Italy) and Tblisi (Georgia). Her works has been published in noumerous European newspapers, including The Guardian. Her main collaborations were with IndiaToday, Italian Radio broadcasting RTL 102.5, and TV Today Network.
She is HEFAT certified and can provide certificate upon request.
Great part of her skills both in storytelling and photographing are linked to the volounteering opportunities Maria Giulia experienced around the globe. She volounteered in Cuba, Romania, Greece, Italy and Ireland. In these occasions she met many extreme situations that were far behind the line of human rights. Those experiences deeply influenced her view of the world, proving her strength and resistance in hostile environments.
